General
What is Bu.?
Bu. is a fashion identity app. You upload a clothing item you own, love, or are curious about, choose an aesthetic direction, and Bu.'s AI generates a complete outfit concept around it. The goal is to help you explore and express your personal style.
How does Bu. work?
Upload an image of a clothing item, choose your vibe, and Bu. generates a full outfit concept inspired by that piece. You can save looks you love, organise them into closets, explore what other creators are building on the discovery feed, and share your own outfits publicly if you want to.
Who is Bu. for?
Bu. is for anyone who uses fashion as a way to explore and express who they are. Most of our users are teenagers and young adults, but the platform is open to anyone aged 13 and over who wants a creative space to figure out their style.
What does "Bu." mean?
Bu. is short for "be you." It is the simplest version of what the platform is trying to do. Not dress like them, not follow the trend, just: be you.
Who founded Bu.?
Bu. started with a simple idea: fashion should help people express who they are, not tell them who they should be. The platform was created by Zayn after seeing how much fashion content online focused on trends, shopping, and fitting in rather than self-expression. You can read more about the story behind Bu. on our About Us page.
Do I need fashion experience to use Bu.?
Not at all. Bu. is built for exploration, not expertise. You do not need to know the difference between aesthetics or have an established style to get started. That is kind of the point.
Can I use Bu. if I do not know my aesthetic yet?
Yes, and Bu. is probably most useful when you do not. Upload things that catch your eye and see what the AI builds around them. Over time you will notice what you keep saving and what does not feel right. That process is the whole idea.
What if I don't own any clothes I like?
You don't need to. Upload screenshots, inspiration photos, clothes from online stores, or anything that catches your eye. Bu. is designed to help you discover your style, not prove that you already have one.
Do I need to show my face?
No. Bu. works with clothing images, screenshots, and outfit inspiration. You never need to upload a photo of yourself to use the app.
Is Bu. free to use?
Bu. is free to join. You can create an account, build closets, browse the discovery feed, follow creators, and save looks without paying anything. AI outfit generation costs Stars, which are purchased separately. There is no free generation allowance.
Can I use Bu. without posting anything publicly?
Yes. Everything you create on Bu. is private by default. You only share something publicly when you actively choose to post it to the discovery feed. You can use Bu. entirely privately and never share a single look.
Style & Identity
What is an aesthetic?
An aesthetic is simply a style or vibe. Streetwear, Old Money, Y2K, Coquette, Alternative, and Gorpcore are all examples. Each has its own look and feel. Bu. uses aesthetics as creative starting points to help you explore different directions.
Do I need to choose one aesthetic?
No. Most people are drawn to more than one aesthetic and that is completely normal. You might love the clean lines of Old Money for some outfits and the layered textures of Gorpcore for others. Style does not have to fit in a single box.
Will Bu. tell me what aesthetic I am?
No. Bu. does not try to put you in a box or assign you a label. You might save outfits from multiple aesthetics over time and that is completely fine. Style is personal and it changes. Bu. is here to help you explore, not define yourself with a single category.
Can my style change?
Yes, and it probably will. Style evolves as you do. Bu. is designed to support exploration over time, not lock you into a fixed identity. What you are drawn to at thirteen might look completely different at seventeen. That is not inconsistency, that is growth.
What if I like multiple aesthetics?
That is the norm, not the exception. Many people build closets around different aesthetics for different moods, occasions, or seasons. Bu. is designed for exactly that kind of exploration. There are no rules about how many aesthetics you can explore.
Will Bu. tell me what to wear?
No. Bu. generates outfit ideas based on what you upload and the direction you choose. It is a creative starting point, not a prescription. You decide what feels right and what does not. The goal is to give you more options to explore, not to tell you who to be.
Can I use Bu. even if I don't know fashion?
Yes. Bu. is not for fashion experts. It is for anyone who is curious about style, whatever their level of knowledge. If you can point at something and say "I like this," Bu. can work with that.
Is Bu. about following trends?
No. Trends can be fun to explore, but Bu. is designed to help you discover what feels right for you. The goal is not to look like everyone else. The goal is to understand your own style better.
Stars
What are Stars?
Stars are Bu.'s digital currency. You buy them in packs and spend them inside the app. Stars are used for AI outfit generation and for buying items in Bu Shop.
How much does a generation cost?
Every AI outfit generation costs Stars. The current cost per generation is shown in the app. This includes regenerating from an image you have already uploaded, because each regeneration runs the AI again.
Do I get free Stars when I sign up?
No. New accounts do not include a starting Star balance. Bu. is free to join and free to use socially, but AI generation requires Stars from the outset.
Is there a free daily generation allowance?
No. There is no daily free generation allowance. All AI generation costs Stars.
Do Stars expire?
No. Once purchased, Stars stay in your account until you spend them.
How do I buy Stars?
Stars are purchased in packs through the App Store. Current pack sizes and prices are shown in the app at the time of purchase.
Can I transfer Stars to another account?
No. Stars cannot be transferred between accounts, resold, exchanged, or redeemed for cash. They have no monetary value outside of Bu.
Why does Bu. charge for generation?
AI generation has a real cost every time it runs. Charging in Stars means we can keep Bu. free to join and use socially, avoid advertising, and avoid selling user data. You only pay for the part that actually costs us money to provide.
What happens if I run out of Stars?
You will not be able to generate new outfits until you purchase more Stars. Everything else on Bu. continues to work as normal, including your closets, saved looks, and the discovery feed.
Bu. Plus
What is Bu. Plus?
Bu. Plus is a monthly subscription that unlocks additional features on Bu. Current features and pricing are shown in the app before you purchase, and pricing may vary by App Store country or region.
What does Bu. Plus include?
Bu. Plus includes unlimited closets, access to purchase eligible Plus-exclusive Bu Shop items, the ability to use your own images from your camera roll as profile wallpaper, and a birthday celebration indicator on your profile on your birthday.
Does Bu. Plus include Stars?
No. Bu. Plus does not include Stars, does not provide free generations, and does not reduce the Star cost of generating an outfit. Stars and Bu. Plus are separate products.
Do Plus members pay less per generation?
No. Every user pays the same Star cost per generation, including Bu. Plus subscribers.
How do I cancel Bu. Plus?
Subscriptions are managed through the App Store. To cancel, go to your subscription settings in the App Store and follow their cancellation process. Bu. cannot cancel subscriptions on your behalf.
What happens when my Plus subscription ends?
You keep access to Plus features until the end of the billing period you have already paid for. After that, your account moves to the free experience. Your closets, saved outfits, and any Shop items you purchased are not deleted.
How do refunds work?
Subscription payments and Star purchases are processed by the App Store. Refund eligibility is determined by Apple's applicable refund policies and consumer law. Bu. does not control App Store refund decisions. If Apple issues a refund for a Star purchase, Bu. may remove or adjust the corresponding Stars from your balance. If you believe you have been charged incorrectly, email support@buapp.info and we will do our best to help.
Bu Shop
What is Bu Shop?
Bu Shop sells digital cosmetic items you can use to personalise your Bu. profile and closets. Items include wallpapers, closet covers, profile frames, and stickers.
How do I buy Shop items?
Shop items are purchased with Stars, the same currency used for AI generation.
Do Shop items belong to me permanently?
Once purchased, an item remains associated with your account and does not expire because you cancel Bu. Plus. Shop items are licensed for use within Bu. and cannot be extracted, redistributed, resold, or used outside the platform.
Are all Shop items available to everyone?
Most are. Some Shop items are only available to Bu. Plus subscribers to purchase. If you buy a Plus-exclusive item while subscribed and later cancel, you keep the item you bought. Your access to purchase other Plus-exclusive items ends when your subscription ends.
Are Shop items made by Bu.?
Yes. All Bu Shop items are created by Bu. and remain Bu.'s intellectual property. Buying an item gives you a personal licence to use it within Bu., not ownership of the design.
AI Generation
How does outfit generation work?
You upload an image of a clothing item and choose an aesthetic style. Bu.'s AI reads the visual characteristics of your upload, including the shape, silhouette, colour palette, and general category, and generates a complete outfit concept built around those qualities. The result is a new AI-generated look, not a copy of your image.
What kinds of images can I upload?
Photos of clothing you own, screenshots from retailer websites, product images saved to your camera roll, and style inspiration images. If you can photograph it or screenshot it, Bu. can work with it.
Can I upload screenshots from websites?
Yes. Screenshot a product you are interested in and Bu. will use it as styling inspiration to generate an outfit concept around it. Keep in mind that the screenshot itself belongs to the retailer or brand, not to you. Bu. uses it as a reference only.
Can I upload clothes I already own?
Yes. That is one of the most natural ways to use Bu. Take a photo of something in your wardrobe and see what the AI builds around it.
Does Bu. copy my uploaded image?
No. Your upload is used as a styling reference. Bu. generates a new outfit concept inspired by its visual qualities. The original image is not reproduced in the output.
Why does the generated outfit look different from what I uploaded?
Bu.'s AI interprets the visual characteristics of your upload and generates something new around them. The output is a creative interpretation rather than a precise reproduction. Some elements of the original piece will be reflected in the generated look, but the overall outfit is an original AI-generated concept.
Can I regenerate a look?
Yes. You can regenerate from the same uploaded image without re-uploading it. Each regeneration costs Stars, because it runs the AI again.
Can two generations from the same image look different?
Yes. AI generation involves variation by design. Uploading the same image twice may produce different results. This is part of how generative AI works and means you can explore multiple outfit directions from a single piece.
Does Bu. generate real products?
No. Bu. generates outfit concepts, not product listings. Items in a generated look are creative visual concepts and may not exist as real purchasable products. Bu. does not link you to retailers or earn commission on purchases.
Can Bu. generate branded clothing?
Bu.'s AI is designed to generate generic fashion items rather than specific branded products. It works with categories and silhouettes rather than replicating particular brand designs. If something resembling a branded product appears in a generated outfit, this is not intentional.
Can Bu. generate logos?
No. Bu.'s AI is designed not to generate brand logos or trademarked wordmarks.
What happens to my uploaded image after generation?
Your uploaded image is used to provide and safeguard the features you choose to use, including moderation, visual analysis, and AI outfit generation. It is stored to provide your generated outfits and saved content. Images are deleted when the associated content or account is deleted, subject to the retention periods described in our Privacy Policy.
Does Bu. train AI models using my uploads?
No. Bu. does not currently use uploaded images to train AI models. If this ever changes, we will tell you clearly before it happens and ask for your consent separately.
Discovery Feed
What is the discovery feed?
The discovery feed is where users share outfit collages publicly. You can browse looks from other creators, save outfits that inspire you, and follow creators whose style you like. Think of it as a scrollable mood board made by the Bu. community.
Can other people see my outfits?
Only if you choose to share them. Saving an outfit to your closet keeps it private. Posting to the discovery feed makes it visible to other Bu. users. Nothing is shared publicly by default.
How do I keep outfits private?
Simply save outfits to your closet without posting them to the discovery feed. Private outfits are visible only to you.
What information is visible on my public profile?
Your display name, username, profile picture if you have set one, and any outfits you have chosen to post publicly. Your date of birth is not displayed. You are not required to use your legal name as your display name.
Can people message me?
No. Bu. does not have direct messaging. No one can send you a private message, and you cannot send one to anyone else.
Can people comment on my outfits?
No. Bu. does not have comment sections. No one can leave a comment on your outfits or profile.
Can people contact me through Bu.?
No. Bu. has no direct messaging, comments, group chats, voice chat, or livestreaming. The only interaction between users is through saving, following, and the discovery feed.
Following & Community
How does following work?
Following is one-directional. When you follow a creator, their publicly shared outfits may appear in your discovery experience. Following someone does not open a communication channel between you.
Can people see who I follow?
Bu.'s profile pages show public outfits. Specific follow lists are not currently displayed publicly.
Can I block users?
Yes. You can block users through their profile. A blocked user will not be able to follow you, view your public profile through Bu., or interact with your content. Blocking is designed to give you more control over your experience on the platform.
How do I report content?
Every outfit and profile in the Bu. app has a report button. Tap it, select the reason that best fits, and submit. You do not need to write a detailed explanation. You can also email support@buapp.info for anything you want to explain in more detail.
What happens after I report something?
Reports are logged and reviewed by Bu. Depending on what a review finds, we may take no action, remove the content, issue a warning, restrict the account, or remove it entirely. We will not always be able to share the specific outcome with you, but reports help us identify problems and take action where appropriate.
Can I appeal a moderation decision?
Yes. If content you posted was removed or your account was restricted and you believe the decision was incorrect, you can request a review. Email support@buapp.info with the subject line Appeal Request. Visit our Moderation Appeals page for the full process.
Closets
What is a closet?
A closet is a personal collection where you can organise and save outfits. You can create multiple closets with different themes, aesthetics, or purposes. Think of them as named mood boards that live on your profile.
How many closets can I create?
Free accounts can create up to four closets. Bu. Plus subscribers have unlimited closets.
What happens to my closets if my Plus subscription ends?
Your existing closets are not deleted. Everything you have built stays in your account and remains accessible. However, if you have more than four closets when your subscription ends, you will not be able to create new closets until you are back within the free limit of four.
Will my saved outfits be deleted?
No. Your saved outfits are not deleted when your subscription ends. They remain in your account.
Can I organise outfits into different closets?
Yes. That is exactly what closets are for. You can create multiple closets and save different outfits to each one.
Accounts
How do I create an account?
You can create a Bu. account using Apple Sign In or Google Sign In. Traditional email and password registration is not currently available.
Can I change my username?
Yes. You can change your username in the app through your account settings, subject to a limit of one change every 30 days.
Can I change my email address?
Bu. uses Apple Sign In or Google Sign In. The email address associated with your Bu. account is provided by your sign-in provider and is stored as part of your account authentication. If you need help with the email associated with your Bu. account, contact support@buapp.info.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account directly in the app through your account settings. You can also email support@buapp.info if you need help.
What happens when I delete my account?
Your profile, your content, and the personal information associated with your account are removed from Bu. Limited moderation and safety records may be retained in anonymised form where appropriate, with identifying details removed. Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.
What happens to my Stars and Shop items if I delete my account?
Any unspent Stars and purchased Shop items associated with the account are lost when the account is deleted and cannot be restored. Deleting your Bu. account does not itself create a right to a refund. Any refund request remains subject to Apple's applicable refund policies and consumer law.
Does deleting my account cancel my subscription?
No. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a Bu. Plus subscription. Subscription cancellation is managed through the App Store. Please cancel separately to avoid further charges.
Can I reactivate a deleted account?
No. Deleted accounts cannot be reactivated. If you return to Bu. after deleting your account, you will need to create a new account.
Age Requirements
How old do I need to be to use Bu.?
You must be 13 or older to create a Bu. account.
Why is Bu. limited to users aged 13+?
Bu. is designed to be an age-appropriate creative experience, and our minimum age reflects that commitment.
What happens if someone under 13 creates an account?
If we identify an account belonging to a user under 13, we may remove it. If you are a parent and believe your child under 13 has created an account, email support@buapp.info and we will look into it.
Is my date of birth visible to other people?
No. Your date of birth is private and is not displayed on your profile. Bu. uses it to check that you meet the minimum age requirement. If you subscribe to Bu. Plus, a birthday celebration indicator may appear on your profile on your birthday, but your date of birth, birth year, and age are never displayed.
Parents
Is Bu. safe for teenagers?
Bu. was designed with safety built into its structure. There is no direct messaging, no comments, no group chats, no livestreaming, and no voice chat. These were deliberate product decisions that remove the conditions where most harmful online interactions occur. For more detail, visit our Child Safety Policy and Parental Guide.
Why does Bu. not have direct messaging?
Because direct messaging is one of the primary ways harm occurs on platforms used by young people. By not including it, Bu. removes that risk by design rather than trying to moderate it after the fact.
Why does Bu. not have comments?
For the same reason. Comments create a mechanism for strangers to write things directed at a young person's content, which can cause harm. Bu. is built around creative inspiration rather than social interaction.
Does Bu. have in-app purchases?
Yes. Bu. sells Stars, a digital currency used for AI outfit generation and Bu Shop cosmetic items, and Bu. Plus, a monthly subscription. All purchases are made through the App Store. Parents can manage or restrict in-app purchases through Apple's Screen Time and Family Sharing settings.
How can I request deletion of my child's account?
Email support@buapp.info with the subject line Account Deletion Request, and include the username or the email address associated with their Apple or Google account. We will process it promptly.
How can I learn more about how Bu. works?
Visit our Parental Guide, which explains Bu. in plain English for parents and guardians, including what we collect, who can see what, and how to contact us with concerns.
Privacy
What information does Bu. collect?
Bu. collects your username, the email address associated with your Apple or Google account, your profile picture if you add one, your date of birth, and the content you create including uploaded images, generated outfits, and closets. We also collect your Star balance, purchase history, and general usage and technical information to keep the platform running. Our Privacy Policy explains everything in full.
Does Bu. sell personal information?
No. Bu. does not sell personal information to anyone for any purpose.
Does Bu. sell children's information?
No. Bu. does not sell the data of any user, including users under 18.
Does Bu. share information with advertisers?
No. Bu. does not sell personal information and does not share personal information with advertisers or ad networks for advertising purposes.
Can I request a copy of my data?
Yes. Email contact@buapp.info with the subject line Data Request and we will put together the information Bu. holds about you.
How do I exercise my privacy rights?
Email contact@buapp.info. You have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information. UK and EU users have rights under UK GDPR and EU GDPR. California residents have rights under CCPA and CPRA. Visit our Data Requests and Privacy Rights page for full details.
Technical Questions
The app crashed. What should I do?
Close the app fully and reopen it. If the problem continues, try uninstalling and reinstalling. If it still happens, email support@buapp.info with your device type, operating system version, and a description of what you were doing when it crashed.
My generation failed. What should I do?
Check your internet connection and try again. If the failure spent Stars, email support@buapp.info with your username and details of when it happened and we will look into it.
I was charged but did not receive my Stars. What should I do?
Email support@buapp.info with your username and details of the purchase including the date and amount. We will investigate and resolve it as quickly as we can.
How do I contact support?
Email support@buapp.info for account issues, technical problems, safety concerns, and anything urgent. Email contact@buapp.info for general questions and feedback.
Accessibility
Is Bu. accessible?
We are working toward making Bu. as accessible as possible for as many people as possible, including toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). This includes supporting screen readers where possible, maintaining sufficient colour contrast, using clear and readable language, and building responsive layouts across devices. We are actively improving accessibility as the platform grows. Visit our Accessibility Statement for more detail.
How can I report an accessibility issue?
Email contact@buapp.info and describe what you were trying to do and what did not work. Accessibility feedback is taken seriously and treated as a priority.
Safety
How does Bu. protect young users?
Bu. has no direct messaging, comments, group chats, voice chat, or livestreaming. These were deliberate design decisions made before the product was built. Bu. uses automated content moderation systems and provides reporting tools throughout the app. Accounts identified as belonging to users under 13 may be removed. Where required by law, child sexual exploitation and abuse content is reported to the appropriate authorities. Other serious child-safety concerns may also be reported where appropriate. Visit our Child Safety Policy for the full detail.
Why does Bu. not have messaging?
Because direct messaging is where a significant proportion of harmful online interactions occur on platforms used by young people. Removing it is a structural safety decision, not a missing feature.
What should I do if I see something concerning?
Use the report button on any outfit or profile in the app. For anything urgent, email support@buapp.info and mark it as urgent. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services before contacting Bu.
How quickly are reports reviewed?
Reports are reviewed as quickly as we are able to. Urgent safety concerns are prioritised. Visit our Safety Centre for more information.
Future of Bu.
Will new features be added?
Yes. Bu. is a growing platform and new features are being built and released over time.
How can I suggest a feature?
Email contact@buapp.info with your idea. We read everything and genuinely consider suggestions from our community.
How can I join the Bu. team?
