moderation appeals

If you believe a moderation decision was made incorrectly, you have the right to ask for a review. That is what this page is for.

We try to get it right. Sometimes we need a second look.

Bu.'s moderation exists to keep the community safe and creative. The people and systems behind it are working to protect a space where young people can express themselves without encountering harmful content.

But moderation is not perfect. Decisions can be made on incomplete information. Context can be missed. Judgement calls do not always land the right way.

If you believe a decision was made incorrectly, you have the right to ask for a review. That is what this page is for.

What you can appeal

If any of the following have happened to your account and you believe the decision was a mistake, you can submit an appeal:

Content removal. An outfit, collage, or closet you posted was removed and you believe it did not violate our Community Guidelines.

Removal from the discovery feed. Your content was taken down from the public discovery feed and you believe this was incorrect.

Account restrictions. Features on your account have been limited or disabled and you do not believe your behaviour warranted it.

Temporary suspension. Your account has been temporarily suspended and you believe the suspension was applied in error.

Account removal. Your account has been permanently removed and you believe this decision was a mistake.

If your situation is not listed above but you feel a moderation decision affected you unfairly, you can still reach out. We will let you know whether your situation is eligible for review.

Serious violations and urgent safety actions

Serious safety actions can still be reviewed if you believe Bu. made a mistake, including where you believe content or an account was incorrectly identified as involving illegal content, child sexual exploitation or abuse, grooming, or another serious safety violation.

Submitting an appeal does not automatically restore content, lift an account restriction, or pause any safety action while the review takes place.

Where a review confirms that content is child sexual exploitation or abuse material, illegal content, grooming-related content, or another serious violation, the original action may remain in place. Content that Bu. is legally required to remove will not be reinstated, and an appeal does not prevent Bu. from making any report to the appropriate authority where required by law.

Repeat serious violations may result in permanent account removal. You may appeal if you believe the decision or the account involved was identified incorrectly.

How to submit an appeal

Appeals are submitted by email. We do not currently have an in-app appeals form, so please use the contact details below.

Email your appeal to: support@buapp.info

Use the subject line: Appeal Request

Please include the following in your message:

Your Bu. username or the email address associated with your Apple or Google account. A description of what happened, the content that was removed, the restriction that was applied, or the action that was taken. The reason you believe the decision was incorrect. Any additional context that might help us understand the situation better. If relevant, the date the action was taken or the notification you received from Bu.

You do not need to write a formal letter. Write it however feels natural. What matters is that we have enough information to review the decision properly.

Submitting multiple appeals for the same decision may not result in additional reviews.

What happens after you submit

Your appeal is reviewed. Appeals are assessed against our Community Guidelines and the circumstances of the original decision.

We look at the original decision. We review the content or behaviour that led to the moderation action, the reason it was flagged, and the guidelines that were applied.

We may contact you for more information. If something is unclear or if additional context would help us reach a fair decision, we will get in touch. Responding to our follow-up message is optional, but it may help your appeal.

We reach a decision. Based on the review, we will either uphold the original decision, modify it, or reverse it. All three outcomes are genuinely possible. We do not review appeals with the intention of justifying decisions already made.

We aim to let you know the outcome. We aim to respond to every appeal we receive. We will tell you what was decided and, where we are able to, why.

How long does a review take

We do not promise a fixed timeframe for appeals because our capacity to respond quickly depends on how many appeals we are managing at any given time.

What we can tell you is that appeals are reviewed as quickly as we are able to, and that appeals involving urgent safety concerns or account access issues are prioritised.

If you submitted an appeal and have not heard from us after a reasonable amount of time, you are welcome to follow up at support@buapp.info referencing your original message.

A fair process

Submitting an appeal will never be held against you. If your appeal is unsuccessful, your account or content will not be treated any differently as a result of you having asked for a review.

Appeals are assessed on their own merits. The outcome depends on the decision itself and the information available, not on who is asking or how many times they have contacted us.

We also acknowledge that we will not always get appeals right either.

When a decision is final

Some decisions, after full review, will be confirmed as final. Where this happens, we will be clear with you that the decision will not be reviewed again.

We understand that is not always the answer people are hoping for. We will always try to explain our reasoning as clearly as we can, even when the outcome does not change.

This is still a creative community

Moderation exists to protect the space, not to limit self-expression.

Bu. is built for creativity, identity, and genuine style. Moderation is intended to protect genuine creative expression, not get in its way. If your content was removed and you believe it should not have been, we genuinely want to hear from you.

A fair appeals process is part of what makes a community worth being part of.

Creativity. Fairness. Safety. Self-expression.

That is what Bu. is for, and it is what our moderation, and our appeals process, is designed to protect.
