Keeping young people safe is not optional. It is the foundation.
Bu. is a creative space for young people to explore and express their style identity. Bu. is designed for users aged 13 and over, which means child safety is not a box we tick. It is something we have built into the product from the ground up.
This page explains how we protect young people on Bu., what we do when something goes wrong, and how parents, guardians, and young people themselves can get help.
We have written it in plain English because safety information should be easy to understand, not buried in legal language.
Who Bu. is for
Bu. is designed for users aged 13 and over.
If you are under 13, you are not permitted to create a Bu. account. Bu. is designed to be an age-appropriate creative experience, and our minimum age reflects that commitment.
If we identify an account that appears to belong to a user under 13, that account may be removed and the associated data deleted.
If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child under 13 has created a Bu. account, please contact us at support@buapp.info and we will look into it.
Age verification
During account creation, users are asked to provide their date of birth. Accounts identified as belonging to users under 13 are not permitted on Bu. Where we have reason to believe an account belongs to a user under 13, that account may be reviewed and removed. A user's date of birth is private and is not displayed on their profile.
How Bu. was designed with safety in mind
The safest platform is one where harm cannot easily happen in the first place. We made deliberate product decisions to reduce risk for young users before they ever open the app.
Bu. has no direct messaging. Users cannot send private messages to each other. There is no inbox, no chat, no way for one user to contact another privately. This removes one of the most common vectors for grooming and unwanted contact on social platforms.
Bu. has no comment sections. Users cannot leave comments on each other's content. There is no way to write something directed at another user publicly or privately through content interaction.
Bu. has no group chats, voice chat, or livestreaming. There are no group features and no live features that allow users to communicate with each other in real time or otherwise.
What Bu. does have is a discovery feed where users can share outfit content publicly, save looks they like, and follow other creators. These are passive, one-directional interactions. They do not open a channel between users.
This was not an accident. We chose this design because we believe the best protection for young people is a platform structure that does not create the conditions for harm.
Public content and visibility
When a user posts an outfit to the Bu. discovery feed, that content becomes visible to other Bu. users.
Users are always in control of what they share. Saving an outfit to a personal closet keeps it private. Posting to the discovery feed makes it public within Bu. Users choose which action to take every time.
There is no default public posting. Sharing to the discovery feed is always an active choice.
What is visible on a public post: The outfit collage, and the display name and username of the creator. A user's date of birth is not displayed. Bu. does not display other personal information alongside public posts.
Reporting public content: Any user can report any piece of public content using the report button available on every outfit and profile in the app. Reports are assessed against our Community Guidelines and this policy, and actioned where appropriate.
Content that is never acceptable
The following serious violations may result in immediate content removal and/or account removal without warning, as well as reporting to relevant authorities where required or appropriate:
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Child sexual exploitation and abuse content will be removed and, where required by law, reported to the appropriate authority or designated reporting body. In the United Kingdom, qualifying CSEA content is reported to the National Crime Agency where the statutory reporting duty applies. In other jurisdictions, reports may be made to the relevant body, including NCMEC in the United States where applicable.
Grooming behaviour. Any content, pattern of behaviour, or use of Bu.'s features that appears designed to build inappropriate relationships with minors may result in immediate account removal and referral to the relevant authorities where appropriate.
Sexualisation of minors. Content that sexualises anyone under 18 in any form is prohibited absolutely. This includes illustrated, AI-generated, or stylised content as much as photographic content.
Threats directed at minors. Content that threatens, intimidates, or targets a minor may be removed immediately and may result in account action.
If you see anything that falls into any of these categories, please report it immediately using the in-app report button or by emailing us directly at support@buapp.info. Mark your message as urgent.
How reporting works
In the app: Every outfit and every profile has a report button. Tap it, select the reason, and submit. You do not need to write a detailed explanation. A clear category report is enough for us to begin a review.
By email: For concerns that feel urgent or that you want to explain in more detail, email us at support@buapp.info. Please include as much context as you can. Reports involving child safety are always prioritised above everything else.
What happens after a report: Reports involving child safety are treated as our highest priority. Bu. uses a combination of automated moderation systems and review by our team, and we act on child safety concerns as a matter of urgency. We will not always be able to share the outcome of a report with the person who submitted it.
Information for parents and guardians
We know that parents and guardians want to understand the platforms their children use. We welcome that. Here is what you need to know about Bu., and how to reach us.
What Bu. is: A fashion identity app where teenagers can generate outfit collages, explore style aesthetics, and share creative fashion content. It is designed for creative expression, not social communication.
What Bu. is not: A messaging platform, a chat app, or a space where your child can be contacted privately by strangers. The product structure does not allow for private contact between users.
If your child is under 13: Contact us at support@buapp.info and we will look into it. Accounts identified as belonging to users under 13 may be removed and the associated data deleted.
If you want to request deletion of a minor's account: Email us at support@buapp.info with the username or the email address associated with their Apple or Google account. We will look into it. For young people aged 13 to 17, privacy rights belong to the account holder as well, so we may need to speak with them or seek their authorisation before deleting the account, depending on the circumstances.
If you have a general concern about your child's account: Email us at contact@buapp.info and we will respond as quickly as we can. You do not need to have a specific complaint to reach out. If something feels wrong, contact us.
If you want to understand what data we hold about your child: Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why. You can also email us at contact@buapp.info to ask about a young person's account data. Where a young person can exercise their own privacy rights, we may need their authorisation before disclosing their personal information to you.
Data and privacy for young users
Bu. collects and processes the information described in our Privacy Policy to provide and safeguard the service, manage accounts, keep the platform secure, and meet applicable legal obligations. Bu. does not sell personal data, including children's personal data.
We do not use the data of users under 18 for behavioural advertising. We do not build profiles on young users for commercial purposes. We do not share children's data with third parties for marketing.
The information Bu. collects from young users is used to provide and safeguard the service, keep the platform secure, and support the features they choose to use.
For a full explanation of what we collect and how we use it, please read our Privacy Policy.
This is an ongoing commitment
Bu. is a growing platform. As we grow, we will face new challenges and our approach to child safety will need to grow with us. We are committed to reviewing and improving these practices as the platform evolves.
We will update this policy when our practices change in meaningful ways. The date at the top of this page reflects when it was last updated.
Child safety is not something we will ever treat as complete or solved. It requires continuous attention, honest self-assessment, and the willingness to act quickly when something needs to change. We are committed to all three.
